On a sunny 5th June a team of seven Legal Ladies arrived at Aldeburgh Golf Club for a light lunch before heading out on to the wonderful course with the ladies of Aldeburgh in seven singles matches. This annual match is very much a favourite in the Legals' calendar with past president Susie Rougier, who is a member at Aldeburgh, organising the host team at Aldeburgh and Hon. Sec. Gillie Galloway putting together the visiting team of Legals.
The afternoon singles saw the Legals finish ahead with a 4 1/2 to 2/12 lead. Aldeburgh hosted a very delicious and enjoyable supper in the Clubhouse following which Gillie and Susie (gratefully assisted by Aldeburgh's Lady Captain, Helen Lane) put their heads together to agree the pairings for the next day. This process had been somewhat complicated by various drop outs on both teams.
The next morning the teams went out again in three foursomes and one singles match. There were some very closely fought contests in the bright but somewhat cool weather. This time it was Aldeburgh who came in ahead winning three out of the four matches. This resulted in the overall match being a draw.
Having previously been soundly beaten at Aldeburgh the Legals were very happy and hoping that next year might see an even better result!
This July will see the start of some remodelling of the course at Aldeburgh so next year's match will take in some of the newly redesigned holes.
